Looking at the last posts, wow this site is dated.  It’s really quite embarrassing.  The Starbucks Gold Card program is now coming to a close “evolving” a little over a year later.  There is a new iPhone out.  And all in all, the posts before those are almost a year and a half old.

As someone who owns my own domain, you have to wonder, what is the point if you’re not keeping it current.  Does this site really reflect what I’m keeping up on, what interest me, and what I’m learning.  The answer is clearly no.

Therefore, I’m working on updating the site and figuring out what I will be writing on to keep the site current.  I still don’t know what that will look like, but you’ll know in less than a year.

Kid’s now getting into MMA.

This weekend will be capping off, what is probably the biggest 8 day stretch in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) history. Last week UFC 84 took place with three big fights and many other good undercard fights. Tonight Elite XC will have their first fight night on CBS, which will mark the first time MMA has been broadcast on network television. Then, to cap it all off tomorrow night W.E.C. (another MMA league) will have the biggest fight in their history on basic cable (at least I think VS is still considered basic cable).

All in all MMA is becoming more and more mainstream with the media, the sponsors, and even more so the participants. There will be girls fighiting on the Elite XC show tonight and this morning I just saw this piece from 20/20 with John Stossel looking into kids who are now getting into MMA.

I may be jaded as I don’t have kids, but I think this is actually great. Getting kids into the sport at an early age will help teach good technique, and really, how much can these kids hurt eachother. MMA has proven to be safer than many other sports and I think teaching kids how to take a hit at an early age will be a great thing in our current society. It’s refreshing to see some parents not get so scared for their sons and daughters to even play tag or kickball on the schoolyard.

Prince performing Radiohead’s “Creep” at Coachella ’08

Prince recently played a cover of the Radiohead song “Creep” at the huge concert festival “Coachella.” Since Radiohead won’t play the song anymore, it’s good to see that somebody is still playing the song as it’s such a great one. Well… after the concert Prince talks to his people and starts having them take the video off the internet. Flagging it as copyrighted by the owners of the content.

The problem with this, is that Radiohead owns the song since they wrote it, even though Prince performed it. Radiohead’s lead singer Tom Yorke wants to see the video and he wants the video to be spread around the internet. So in a funny, or forward thinking artist, twist Radiohead is telling Prince’s people to stop blocking the video and to let it live online and let people see it.

Funny that the person who owns the copyright wants it distributed, and that the person who doesn’t have the rights to pull it off the series of tubes that is the internet is trying to get it yanked.

You can’t find the videon on YouTube, but there are a few versions floating around. Hopefully the video embedded above will continue to work.

My new, makeshift, power cord… for tonight at least.

I came home a little early today after picking up my car from the shop. After working for awhile on my laptop it was time to grab my power cord as the battery was low. After realizing I forgot the key piece to connect my Apple power supply to the wall I was a little worried I would be without my laptop for the rest of the night (Not a problem if I wasn’t downloading something, but well, you know).

Luckily I was able to remember a post I saw on Gizmodo a few months ago and was able to take another power cord, shave off a little plastic and use it for a makeshift extension cord for my macbook pro. Yes, the ground is a good safety, but when you’re in a pinch this works.

Basically the coolest coffee table ever.

I saw some pictures of this table earlier in the night, but figured it was just a table that let you push the buttons.  I was wrong, this table is an actual working NES controller!  Pretty amazing.

To bad it won’t work with my newest videogame obsession, Mario Kart Wii!

Do Work

If you’re a fan of OSU Football, you have probably heard that the defensive moto for next year is “Do Work” taken from MTV’s Rob & Big.  I love the show, so seeing two things I really enjoy come together made me think that I had to do something about it.  I made a shirt.

If you don’t know where I got the inspiration for this shirt at, check out Big Black’s clothing line.  I took into account, Al Afalava’s initials AA, his number #9, and the fact that he will be one of the key contributors to OSU’s stelar secondary next year.  All of these, mixed with the nod to the “Double B’s” makes it a must own for those Rob & Big or Afalava fans in Corvallis (or anywhere).

Well, I opened it up to find out what was inside during this holiday season… and to my surprise it was a marketing gimmick with three Starbucks Double Shots inside.  Something about how I can get fast service from AT&T, when I buy my new HP computer, I don’t know I didn’t read any of the packaging.  Just took out the Double Shots before deciding that this is something that I could and should blog about.

This seems like a very expensive mailing, but maybe I fit the right demographic.  I have purchased an HP computer before (7 years ago), I do have a large phone bill sent to me monthly from AT&T, and could it be possible for them to purchase my name from when I registered my Starbucks card?  Well, I’m not going to be buying an HP laptop anytime soon (although, they do recommend Business  Vista) but I will definitley enjoy the more than $5 in free Starbucks drinks.

I hang the majority of my shirts, and one of my least favorite houehold tasks to do is laundry, particularly the folding and hanging of clothes after they’re out of the dryer.  Check out what I learned to do today and how I will be folding the rest of my shirts from here on out.  It’s kind of like 7 minute abs, but if someone comes out with 6 minute abs I will switch to the new shirt folding method.

Are you hooked?

Prviously I had loved the idea of a bluetooth headset, but the one I had was mroe annoying than anything. I couldn’t hear, the person I was talking to couldn’t hear, it was always something. I hope with this investment (big sale though) that I will enjoy the experience again…and be safe to drive on the road.
