A girls new best friend

No longer Diamonds, LV, or Gucci.  It’s now names such as Sony, Toshiba, and Apple.  A new study now says that 3 of 4 women now prefer technology gifts over diamonds or designer shoes.  What a relief.  I think that deisgner clothes can look great, but not as nice as a new computer or a plasma screen.  The guys even get to enjoy these gifts as well.  Lets just hope word gets out before football season.

I did want to own a NFL franchise…

but this sounds like a pretty sweet deal.  The owners of the former, ABA team the Spirits of St. Louis are making $24M for doing nothing.  The Silas brothers owned the ABA team together and when it time to transition into the NBA and fold, they decided to sell for a percentage of revenue share.  Well there’s a clause in the agreement that states “The right to receive such revenues shall continue for as long as the NBA or its successors continues in its existence.”  Yea that’s a long time.  The NBA or its successors.  Does this get passed down to their children or what?  I know NBA teams are worth between $250M and close to $600M but those owners have to worry about public image, selling a team, managing a front office (kinda) and everything else.  These two brothers go golfing and they’re making 8 figures each.  Not bad at all.

K, I’m going back into video production

Not really. For all you people who don’t know, I love my job and don’t want to go back into video.  This video put out by Appalachin State University is SO BAD that I can’t believe someone got paid for this.  I know I have made some bad movies over the years that I wasn’t totally pleased with, but I wasn’t representing my entire school.  Again,I can’t believe someone got paid to make this, or maybe it was the Dean’s wife or something, it’s just horrible.  What makes it even worse is the fact that it is from 2005.

Appalachian State University is HOT HOT HOT

$100K Offer to Landis

Micheal Robertson who made alot of money with mp3.com has offered Floyd Landis $100K to take a polygraph test.  I hope Landis takes him up on the offer, but sadly I don’t think it will happen.  I am still holding out hope that Landis is clean, and that it was due to drinking a little much the night before, but it is sounding like that is less and less likely.

Here’s the offer from Robertson: My $100K Offer to Floyd Landis

Eons…MySpace for the older crowd

My parents are pretty close to 50 if they aren’t there yet, and I don’t see them getting into this, but maybe it’s for some people.  From the sounds of it it sounds like it’s for Grandparents and their friends, but I guess if you can get the 50 year olds you have them hooked in for longer.

Eons, has just launched today and it is a social network for people who are 50 plus.  You can share photos leave messages, join groups, etc.  They also have a nifty feature called “Obit alerts”  First off, I don’t know how those will work, but for those of you wondering what they are, they are Obituary alerts, letting you know when one of your friends or people in your community has died.  I don’t know how sensitive that is, but it keeps you informed.

Here is Valleywag’s take on it: How to have fun on Eons, the social network for old people

And here is TechCrunch’s writeup: Old people now have a place to hang out

PS. if you’re older than 50 and join, let me know what you think.

Well said Seattlest

Our hometown NBA team will open in Seattle (against the Sonics)

This also goes along with the fact that I think Paul Allen will be bringing the Blazers to Seattle (South Lake Union) in a few years.  Bringing back Brandon Roy and Martell Webster, the city would love it.  We didn’t get to see Martell in a UW uniform and we got to watch B Roy for 4 great years.  Lets hope this is true, but in the meantime we can cheer on the Blazers without leaving Seattle

Half Marathon Training

Last week I officially started my training for the Seattle Half Marathon.  It’s the Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend so I figure I have some time to train.  Last week I ran a 4 mile run, today I ran a 5 mile loop.  I figure if I can add one mile each week I will be running 13.1 miles by the end of September right?  Perfectly logical and probably the best way to train right?  No, I will start running more than once a week, but it’s a start.

Two bad parts about the weekend the Half Marathon is on though.  I will be in Corvallis for my favorite meal of the year, Thanksgiving.  Followed by a Friday football game where the Beavers will beat the ucks in Reser stadium.  That’ll be great, but my diet that day will be far from the norm for a Gameday.  Water and pasta or chicken or whatever I am told is the best food to eat 2 days before I run for afew hours.  I’m guessing beer, hot dogs, and pizza are not on that list.

I was also able to run my 5 miles and then go and do a hip hop class 15 minutes later.  Not to brag, but “I’m not even upset, I’m impressed.”
